Mountain Tea - How it all started

Mountain tea is a beautifully flowered herb with a delicate sweet taste and perfect for making herbal tea. It is rich in iron and antioxidants. Its Latin name, Sideritis Raeseri, can be literally translated as ‘he who is made of iron’. No wonder in Albania, where I grew up, this tea has been used for centuries as a remedy for colds. But we did not only drink mountain tea when we felt under the weather. I remember this leaf and  flower herbal tea brewing on my grandparents’ wooden stove all day long during winter days.

How it started

Imagine my surprise when I came to the Netherlands to study, and mountain tea was nowhere to be found. When I did find it, this lovely, delicious herbal tea was crushed in a tea bag hiding away a truly beautiful herb, with no visual link to nature. Time for big measures. I decided to bring my tea drinking and cultural traditions to Holland and started Lemon Poppy Tea or MNTN.TEA, our new name. Soon more about this.

Health benefits

Drinking mountain tea not only warms your heart. It benefits and supports your health all year round as it keeps you hydrated and has a relaxing effect on the body. Moreover, it contains no caffeine. The perfect tea to drink during cold or hot days and at times you feel a little stressed.

Our Mountain tea comes from the mountains of southern Albania. It is handpicked by local farmers and dried in a natural way to make sure all the best qualities of the tea are preserved. Our tea is 100% organic and as mentioned before it is caffeine-free.

But Mountain tea is also a perfect base for making special herbal tea blends. In our Soul blend, Power blend and Mama blend we combine mountain tea with herbs like hibiscus, wild sage, and chamomile. This results in teas that are not only rich in iron, but also full of minerals to help you lead a long and healthy life.
